Defining Success
I’ve been thinking a lot about what Success looks like, these days. It seems like we’re told that success looks only a certain way and society promotes it to be only a certain thing. ‘You have to make tons of money.’ ‘You need to be making a dramatically large impact on society.’ ‘You need to work until burnout.’ But I don’t think this is accurate and I also don’t think it's fair. I think success is different for everyone. It’s personal. What success looks like to me, to you, to her, to them; it all varies.
I also like to tie Success into Vision. Yes, I’m coming back to your Vision because I honestly believe Vision is one of THE most important aspects of achieving life and business goals. So, in a perfect world, if everything was right, if all the stars aligned, what is your ideal vision for your business? What would you be doing? How does it look? AND, is that what success looks like to YOU? You want to make sure these two things are cohesive. (Read more of my thoughts on Vision here.)
Maybe success to you IS making a lot of money, running a large team and being listed on Fortune 500. Maybe success to you is simply finding joy in your everyday work life. Maybe success is that your family is happy, healthy and thriving. Maybe success is making some type of positive impact on others in your community; however large or small. Remember it’s personal. Success is whatever it means to you.
So, I ask you, think about your vision, and think about what success looks like to you. Be proud of whatever that is, and go out and get it.
